Martis Camp Ranked Top 50 in Best Modern Courses
TRUCKEE, CALIF. (April 4, 2011) — Martis Camp Club in Truckee, Calif., site of the upcoming 45th Pacific Coast Amateur Championship on July 26-29, 2011, has been named No. 50 on Golfweek’s latest edition of “Best Modern Courses.” It’s the first time the Tom Fazio-designed course, which opened in 2008, has been ranked in the prestigious list.
The Pacific Coast Amateur, one of the North America’s premiere amateur golf events, is a 72-hole stroke play championship. The field is comprised of amateur golfers from the 15 associations that make up the Pacific Coast Golf Association and a select number of Presidential Invitees from around the world.
Martis Camp Club’s Golfweek ranking was even more significant because the average score from the publication’s raters of 7.33 (on a scale of 10) was the same as the scores for the club ranked No. 49 and just 1/100 of a point below the next three courses on the list. In 2009, Martis Camp Club was named No. 3 “Best New Course” by Golf Digest. Other accolades include including the “Best New Private Courses” by Links Magazine and “Top 10 New Private Courses” by Golf Magazine in 2008.
Martis Camp Club will play 7,777 yards from the medal (back) tees with a Course Rating of 75.9 and a Slope Rating of 141. The layout takes advantage of dramatic elevations and views of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, with each hole unique to the terrain in which it sits. The 18th green sits in the shadow of a majestic rock promontory, site of the Camp Lodge, the new clubhouse that will open in July.
The Martis Camp development is a private, gated ski and golf resort community developed by DMB/Highlands Management Group, which has also created several other nationally acclaimed golf communities including Forest Highlands Golf Club in Flagstaff, Ariz. which enthusiastically hosted Pacific Coast Amateur Championships in 1991 and 2001.
